HPU Men’s Golf: Charles Valluzzo Tied For Ninth at Big South Championship

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Sophomore Charles Valluzzo shot a two-over 74 to lead the High Point University men’s golf team in the second round of the Big South Conference Tournament on Monday at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. Valluzzo sits in a tie for ninth place with one round remaining.

“It was a really good day for High Point golf,” said head coach Greg Flesher. “Our team score of 305 was the fourth best for the day and it was a great comeback from yesterday. There are just five strokes separating fifth and eighth place and we know we can come out tomorrow and keep moving up.”

High Point is in eighth place after two rounds at the Big South Tournament with a total score of 618 (313-305). The Panthers are one stroke behind Presbyterian College and two ahead of Charleston Southern.

Valluzzo has a two-day score of 150 (76-74) and is tied with three other golfers in ninth place. Coastal Carolina’s Roberto Ballesteros, Campbell’s Amanjyot and Charleston Southern’s Ross Thomson are all tied with Valluzzo.

Freshman Tommy Dillon carded a 76 on Monday, taking three strokes off his first round score of 79. He is tied for 27th place with a total score of 155.

Senior Chase Wilson carded a 156 (79-77) in the first two rounds to sit in 32nd place heading in to the final day of the tournament.

Senior Brian Sullivan is tied for 47th with a cumulative score of 167 (83-84).

Coastal Carolina leads the field heading in to the final round with a 585 (296-289). Winthrop’s Cameron Bell is the individual leader with a two-day score of 143 (72-71).

The Panthers will tee off at 9:40 on Tuesday along with Presbyterian College.
