0 R 3 H 1 E V Glenn(4-7 PTC)

10 R 8 H 0 E Ragsdale (11-8)
(5 Innings)

WP – Matt Horkey (4-2): 5 IP, 3 H’s, 0 R’s, 8 K’s, 0 W’s

LP – Mason Striplin: 0.2, 2 R’s, 1 H, 2 W’s

Key Players: Ragsdale – Matt Horkey: 2 for 3, 2 RBI’s; Duncan Sparks: 1 for 1, 2B, 2 RBI’s; Bryson Harrald: 1 for 3, walk off 3 run HR in 5th inning. Glenn – Aaron Craddock: 1 for 2; Brandon Whitaker: 1 for 2.

Matt Horkey got the start for the Tigers and was in control for the night. He struck out 8 batters, only allowed 3 hits and never allowed a runner past first base in the five inning game.

Mason Striplin, who had shut out HP Central on Thursday night, got the start and walked the first two batters he faced. When Matt Horkey hit a line drive back up the middle to drive in the games first run, Stiplin got hit on the hand by the ball and had to leave the game. Ryan Wood came on in relief and the Tigers got two more runs in the inning on a Duncan Sparks double. They scored two more in the fourth to go up 5 – 0 and got two more in the fifth on Matt Horkey and Avery Hodges RBI singles. Glenn went to the bullpen once again and with two runners on and two outs, senior Bryson Harrald hit a shot down the left field line that stayed just inside the foul pole for a walk off 3 run home run as the 10 run rule was invoked.

Ragsdale closes out the regular season with a Piedmont Triad Conference game at High Point Central on Friday night at 7:00 PM. With the Ragsdale win tonight and the HP Central loss to SW Guilford, the Tigers and Bison are tied for second place in the conference. Glenn will close out their regular schedule with a road game at East Forsyth on Friday, also at 7:00 PM.

  1. The double in the second was an error, which was one of 6 Glenn errors tonight. My score book has it 1 earned in the first, 2 earned thru the 4th, 3 earned in the 5th off the 3 run homer. Glenn only had 2 hits and no runs.

  2. Glenn did not make near 6 errors. Not even close. An outfielder got turned around twice on slicing balls, a hard hit ball took a bad hop and ate up an infielder. Don’t be so quick to throw the kids under the bus. A couple of hard hit balls were misplayed. And how is a double an error when the ball never gets touched and hits the fence, almost going out? Next you’ll be complaining about the home run. The Glenn kids played hard, their coach does a good job, usually doing more with less year after year. Just need to keep some of their parents at home.

  3. I agree with Bucky…Not throwing anyone under the bus here, but an error is an error is an error. I’m sure the coach and players at Glenn work very hard day in and day out. I played college baseball and I know an error when I see it. There were 5 errors last night by Glenn. The outcome wouldn’t have changed but respect the game enough to call it correctly. It’s like giving yourself a hole in one on a mulligan. Too many players dads posting on these blogs giving out embellished info.

  4. Error or hit, everyone will score a play a little differently. I would tend to lean towards the 3 errors that the Bobcat coach reported to the local newspaper. 3, 5, or 6, it doesn’t really matter; it was not a defensive effort the Bobcats should be proud of. As far as the Glenn parents are concerned, there may have been a few calls that didn’t go their way, but the bottom line is they are not an offensive juggernaut and they were facing a soon to be D1 Southpaw that was in complete control start to finish. Better to keep quiet, improve your offense and defense, and come back to fight another day. Congrats to Matt Horkey on another superior complete game effort.

  5. It’s time to call it like it is…It is not a coaching issue at Glenn at all. Some of the parents at Glenn may think it is, but the coach doesnt mis-play fly balls or boot ground balls. Call it thrrowing the players under the bus or not, the players have to have the desire (or heart) to improve.

  6. call it, the guy that keeps the book is not a parent, doesn’t even have a son. And three coaches that are former college players tell him how to score it. Parents are not involved. Good try though.

As to the errors, I had 3. The hard hit ground ball that took a hop of the lip and the 2 throwing errors, one a 2 base error.

As to Glenn’s coaching, every year he seems to get more out of less.

  7. Bill Buckner….Then you missed the error in right field when the 2 Glenn players almost collided. I had 5 you had three, lets agree on at least 4+. I agree with Baseball fan 100%, coach can’t make the plays, and without heart, the team has no chance. I also believe that Showcase baseball is ruining High School ball because to me, some players
treat the High School season like spring training.
