Men’s College Lacrosse Final – Virginia Wesleyan 13, Guilford 10

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Adam Fiore and Chase Clausen had four points on two goals and two assists each in Guilford College’s 13-10 men’s lacrosse loss against visiting Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday.

Virginia Wesleyan (9-6, 5-4 ODAC) put themselves ahead by four goals, three by Nick Pappas, at the end of the first quarter. Pappas struck again, 45 seconds into the second period. Guilford’s Taylor Teodosio scored, making the score 5-1, before Pappas struck again. The Quakers’ Duncan Fitzgerald and Chandler Zirkle scored next. At the end of the first half, Guilford trailed 7-3.

Guilford (8-8, 3-6 ODAC) scored the first two goals of the second half, cutting their opponent’s lead to three. The Marlins scored twice more, followed by a series of four goals from the Quakers. With 14:22 left on the clock, Guilford’s Fiore knotted the score at nine. The teams traded the next two goals, but Virginia Wesleyan had the final say, scoring three unanswered goals to clinch the win.

Pappas scored seven of the Marlins’ 13 goals. Josh Currier added three. Mike Moran had one goal and two assists. Mikey Connors and Corey Baurer led Virginia Wesleyan with four ground balls each. James Alvarez won nine of his 17 faceoffs. Mikey Connors won five of six.

Teodosio had two goals for the Quakers. Daniel Hughey tallied two assists. Henry Farley, Nick Mann, Chandler Zirkle and Duncan Fitzgerald each netted one. Nick Huckins led the team with nine ground balls. Thomas Deane tallied five from the goal.
