Elon Football Holds Annual Spring Game

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University football team held its annual Spring Game on Friday night, May 3, at Rhodes Stadium, as Elon (offense) defeated the Phoenix (defense), 61-50, with a modified scoring system in place.

Mike Quinn gave Elon a lead in the third quarter, as the junior tossed a beautiful 47-yard touchdown pass to a streaking Andre Davis down the right sideline for the score. Quinn shined at quarterback, completing 11-of-16 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown and one interception. Davis finished the game with six catches for 82 yards and the touchdown.

B.J. Bennett scored two rushing touchdowns for Elon, finishing the Spring Game with nine carries for 18 yards. Tracey Coppedge also shined in the Elon backfield, finishing the contest with nine rushes for 37 yards. Coppedge also had one catch for nine yards.

David Wood look impressive on defense for the Phoenix, finishing the contest with four tackles and an interception.

Odell Benton finished the contest with five tackles for the Phoenix defense, while Miles Williams led all players with six tackles.

The Phoenix opens the regular season on Saturday, August 31 at Georgia Tech.
