Elon Track and Field to Race at Duke Twilight

ELON, N.C. – A few selected members of the Elon track and field team will compete at the Duke Twilight on Sunday, May 5. The single-day meet is slated to begin at noon at Wallace Wade Stadium.

With the NCAA East Regional meet coming up in a few weeks, the Phoenix will have a few athletes compete on Sunday to make a push for a regional at-large berth in their respective events.

“We’re looking to have a few of our performers have a great showing at Duke this weekend,” said Elon head track and field coach Mark Elliston. “The girls have been training well for this opportunity to break into the top 48 of their events and for a chance to compete at regionals.”

SoCon champions Kimberlyn Holt (hammer throw), Suzanne Martin (javelin) and Caroline McCaslin are slated to compete in their respective events this weekend. The trio claimed league titles at the outdoor championships in Statesboro, Ga., on April 20-21, with Holt setting a new school-record with a toss of 175’4” (53.45m).

McCaslin will also compete in the 1,500-meter race for the Phoenix. The freshman from Prospect, Ky., ran a season-best time of 4:38.84 at the Raleigh Relays in the race and finished in the top-10. Tereza Novotna will also race in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for Elon after a runner-up finish at the SoCon championships.

Haylee Dawe and Christine Pacewicz complete the distance group traveling this weekend for the Phoenix, as the pair will compete in the 5,000-meter run.

Charlise Morgan will join Holt and Martin in the throwing events. Morgan will compete with Holt in the hammer throw while Morgan will also throw in the shot put.

All-SoCon performer Veronica Luedke will be the lone Elon representative in the 400-meter hurdles. Another All-SoCon athlete, freshmen Megan Kirschling, will look to improve her mark in the high jump this weekend.
