HPU Women’s Track Has Two Place Second at Duke

DURHAM, N.C. — The High Point University women’s lacrosse team competed in the Duke Twilight Meet on Sunday, getting a pair of runner-up performances in the field events. Freshman Christine Rickert took second in the javelin and sophomore Catelyn Griffin was runner-up in the pole vault.

Rickert threw the javelin 44.13 meters (144-9) to place second. She ranks 16th in the East and 35th in the nation with her season-best throw of 47.78 meters (156-9) from April 5. She is in position to qualify for the NCAA Preliminaries, which will be held May 23-25 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.

Griffin cleared 3.30 meters (10-10) to place second in the pole vault. She cleared both 3.15 meters and 3.30 meters on her third attempts.

On the track, freshman Katie Farina set a career best of 4:43.70 to place ninth in the 1,500-meter. It was the best time in that event for any HPU runner this season. Her previous season-best was 4:51.72. Junior Audrey Malloy placed 14th with a time of 4:57.28.

Freshman Julia Zautcke ran a season-best 18:17.39 to place 11th in the 5,000-meter. Her previous best was 18:31.84. Freshman Lilla Lorand placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.57 and junior Colleen Hollowood took 22nd in the open 400-meter.

The Panthers’ outdoor season will continue on Monday and Tuesday as freshmen Sara Katherine Kirkpatrick and Zoey Miller compete in the heptathlon at the Lynchburg College Open Multi-Event in Lynchburg, Va. HPU will compete in last chance meets at NC State on Friday and A&T on Sunday.
