Elon Track and Field in Competition at NC State and Virginia Meets

ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s track and field team will send groups to NC State and Virgnia to compete at the Wolfpack Last Chance Qualifier and at the Virginia Challenge this weekend. The NC State meet is slated to start at 3 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C., while the Virginia Challenge is also scheduled for a 3 p.m. start in Charlottesville, Va.

Scouting the Phoenix
Elon will only send one athlete, distance runner Allyson Oram, to the Virginia Challenge as the junior will compete in the 10,000-meter race. Oram set a school-record in the 10,000m at the prestigious Penn Relays on April 26. The Marlborough, Mass., native ran a time of 35:37.76 at the meet and finished in the top-10, breaking the previous school-mark by nearly 40 seconds.

At the NC State Last Chance meet, the squad of Megan Kirschling (high jump), Veronica Luedke (400-meter hurdles), Charlise Morgan (shot put), Kimberlyn Holt (hammer throw) and Suzanne Martin (javelin) will represent the maroon and gold.

Martin and Holt earned league crowns in their events at the 2013 Southern Conference Outdoor Championships on April 20-21. Martin took the title in the javelin throw while Holt won the hammer throw on a school-record toss of toss of 175’4” (53.45m). Holt also won the event title in the Phoenix’s last meet at the Duke Twilight on Sunday, May 5.

Kirschling, Luedke and Morgan were also All-SoCon performers at the league’s outdoor championships.

The Phoenix will look have its performers improve on their times and marks this weekend to qualify for the NCAA East Regional meet on May 23-25, in Greensboro, N.C.
