Greensboro College Men’s Golf Tied for 13th; Makes Cut at NCAA Division III Championships

(DESTIN, F.L.) — The Pride men’s golf team fired one of the top rounds of the day to move into the top 15 and make the midway cut at the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, FL. Greensboro broke the 300 barrier with a team score of 297, to place in a tie for 13th overall at 606 (309-297).

The Pride played the par-71, 6,854 yard Raven Course on Wednsday after playing the par-72, 6,636 yard Links Course on Tuesday. All 41 teams in the field recorded a round on each course through two days, with the field narrowed to the top 15 following Wednesday’s action.

After finishing Tuesday’s first round in 17th place, Greensboro combined for 12 birdies on Wednesday to climb four spots in the overall team standings.

John Grimes carded a team high four birdies and concluded the afternoon with a 74. Gregory Pappas posted a team best round of even-par 71, with three birdies.

Grimes leads the way at the turn for The Pride, with a two day score of 152 (78-74) to tie for 50th overall in the individual standings. Nick Peoples follows at 153 (78-75), withChris Cox (77-77) and Scott Novicki (76-78) both one stroke behind at 154. With his stellar even-par round on Wednesday, Pappas rounds out the group at 159 (88-71).

Greensboro will return to the course on Thursday. The final two championship rounds will be played on The Raven Course. Transylvania and Texas-Tyler currently lead the field with a 36-hole team score of 579.
