NCHSAA State 3-A Boy’s Dual Team Tennis Championship

CARDINAL GIBBONS ROLLS TO THIRD STRAIGHT NCHSAA MEN’S DUAL TEAM 3-A TENNIS TITLE

DURHAM—Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons had little trouble in rolling to its third consecutive North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A men’s dual team tennis championship Saturday afternoon, blanking Charlotte Catholic 5-0 at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Duke University.

The match had originally been scheduled for the Burlington Tennis Center outdoors but was moved due to rain.

Gibbons won the five completed singles matches in straight sets, led by Robert Kelly and Matt Galush and the number-one and number-two singles. Both completed their seasons unbeaten in singles play, and Kelly won the NCHSAA 3-A singles crown last weekend by defeating Brosnan in that championship as well.

The victorious Crusaders won their seventh dual team title in two different classifications and finished the season with a perfect 26-0 mark. Charlotte Catholic wound up 14-3.
