Southeast Guilford Junior Legion Baseball begins conference play with 2 wins

Southeast Guilford begin its quest for a State JR Legion Championship with two conference wins. The Falcons defeated previously unbeaten Eastern Randolph 11-1. Devin Sweet pitched two innings where the Falcons jumped out to a 7 run lead. Tommy Michaels toed the rubber to start the third inning and pitched what coach Dave Beasley said was “His best game so far this year.” ” Eastern Randolph has a good ball club. Our guys came out of the gate hitting he baseball. We had not hit it like that all season.”concluded Beasley.

Tuesday night the Falcons trimmed Randleman 10 to 6. Bailey Steed have 5 good innings of work while striking out 10 Tiger hitters. Avery Alley and Noah Marley combined for the save. Rising ninth grader Noah Marley was impressive . “He hit his spots well and his curve was awesome. He struck the side out in the last inning.” said coach Beasley.

Ryne Stanley was 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBI’s while Forest Brothers was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI. DJ Artis had a inside the park HR when a tiger outfielder got turned around on a deep ball that was ruled a error. “We had Devin Sweet and Rhyne Stanley alternate tonight at catcher and shortstop. Those two athletes show why they are both prospects at the college level. They are athletic enough to play any position on the field.”stated veteran coach Beasley. The Falcons face the always talented Hi Toms tonight at Southeast. “We like the JR Legion concept — It is mirrors what we do in high school. We have to place high enough in our conference to get a playoff spot and have a chance for a State Championship.” commented coach Dave Beasley.
