Elon Women’s Soccer Announces 2013 Schedule

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women’s soccer head coach Chris Neal announced the Phoenix’s schedule for the 2013 season today, June 19. Elon kicks off the season on August 23 at Coastal Carolina. (Web link – http://www.elonphoenix.com/schedule.aspx?schedule=384)

“I am ready for the 2013 season to begin,” Neal said. “Sixteen of our games are in North Carolina and the remaining three are in South Carolina. From a student-athlete perspective, it does not get much better than that. Hopefully, the non-conference segment will have us clicking on all cylinders for conference play. I expect more of the same from the SoCon teams. It is always highly competitive and there are always a few surprises. It should be an exciting season.”

Following its regular-season opener on August 23 at Coastal Carolina, the Phoenix returns to Rudd Field for its home opener on August 25 versus instate foe East Carolina.

After taking on Campbell on August 29 in Buies Creek, N.C., the Phoenix returns home for a pair of back-to-back matches against Charlotte (Sept. 1) and High Point (Sept. 8).

The maroon and gold will get an early taste of tournament play on Sept. 13 and 15 when it heads to Wilmington, N.C., for the UNCW Tournament. The Phoenix takes on Longwood on Sept. 13 before facing Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Elon’s final non-conference home match takes place on Sept. 20 at Rudd Field, as the Phoenix welcomes the Liberty Flames to campus for a 6 p.m. contest.

The Phoenix opens Southern Conference play at home six days later when it welcomes the Western Carolina Catamounts to Rudd Field. Elon is unbeaten in its last four league openers.

Following its match versus WCU, the Phoenix hits the road for its next three contests. Elon heads to Boone, N.C., on Sept. 29 to face Appalachian State before back-to-back matches in South Carolina against The Citadel (Oct. 4) and non-conference foe Francis Marion (Oct. 6).

Elon returns home for its next two matches on Oct. 11 and 13 when the Phoenix takes on Wofford and Furman. Following those two contests, the team travels to Georgia Southern (Oct. 18) and Davidson (Oct. 20).

The maroon and gold’s final two home matches take place Oct. 25 and 27 when the team hosts Chattanooga and Samford, respectively. Elon’s match against Samford on Oct. 27 will be Senior Day and the final home contest for seniors Angela Funari, Kimmie Krauss, Olivia Mackey, Catherine Brinkman, Simi Dhaliwal, Kendall Stanley, Chelsey Stark and Jennifer McGorty.

The Phoenix closes out the regular season at UNCG on Oct. 30 before the SoCon Tournament begins on Nov. 3. The SoCon Tournament quarterfinals will take place on campus sites before the semifinals and championship shift to Spartanburg, S.C., on Nov. 8 and 10. Elon advanced to the semifinals for the second time in the last three seasons last year.
