Elon Volleyball’s Harris and Nicksic Earn All-State Honors

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Elon volleyball’s Kris Harris and Ana Nicksic have been selected to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Second Team for the 2012 season.

Harris, a middle blocker, led the team with a .243 hitting percentage last season after recording 254 kills and a 2.33 kills/set average. The rising junior also recorded a team-high 95 blocks and averaged 0.87 blocks per set, ranking ninth in the conference in blocks. Harris posted a career-high 17 kills in a four-set match against Furman where she averaged 4.25 kills/set and hit .500. She also tallied a season-high seven blocks in matches against Chattanooga and Georgia Southern. The Apex, N.C., native was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 4 and earned a spot on the Elon Phoenix Classic All-Tournament Team. Off the court, Harris was honored as a member of the SoCon Fall Academic All-Conference Team.

Nicksic led the team with 1,080 assists (9.73.set) in her rookie campaign, ranking seventh in the conference. The rising sophomore finished fourth on Elon’s Division I single-season records list for assists and seventh on the all-time single season records list. The Valparaiso, Ind., native also led the team with 26 aces and finished the season with 183 digs. Nicksic recorded a career-high 55 assists in a four-set match at UNCG to tally 13.75 assists/set. She was selected to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team and also earned the team’s top newcomer award.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The organization seeks to promote collegiate athletics and student-athletes at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
