FPowerade State Games Opening Ceremonies Kicks Off Huge Weekend

Competitions will be held from Mooresville to Wingate across the Entire Charlotte Region

The Powerade State Games of North Carolina has a full slate of events for the upcoming weekend. The schedule kicks off with Opening Ceremonies, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, on Friday, June 21st. Held at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Uptown Charlotte, the Opening Ceremonies features the Powerade FanFest, a Parade of Athletes and the lighting of the cauldron. The FanFest starts at 5:00pm, complete with interactive inflatables, games, mascots and a rock wall. The Parade of Athletes will follow at 7:00pm, with the athletes marching down Glory Road in the Hall, and the lighting of the cauldron will be at 7:30pm. All times are approximate and admission to the plaza is free to athletes, parents, coaches and the general public.

The High School Baseball Showcase started on Wednesday, June 19th, and will continue through the weekend at UNC Charlotte. On Saturday, Lake Norman Charter School has Fencing and Taekwondo competing simultaneously. Fencing will set a Powerade State Games record for participation with nearly 100 already signed up. Also on Saturday, Hopewell High School will host the Karate competition, Hough High School will host the Wrestling tournament, Hornet’s Nest Park will host the BMX competition and the Lake Norman YMCA will host the Gymnastics competition. The two day events for Saturday and Sunday are the High School Soccer Showcase (Wingate University), Youth Basketball (Carolina Courts in Indian Trail), Adult & Youth Soccer Tournaments (Mazeppa Road Park, Richard Barry Park & North Meck Park), Youth Baseball Tournament (many area fields), Youth Ice Hockey Tournament (Extreme Ice Center), Youth Softball Tournament (Bradford Park & Rocky River Park), Ultimate Frisbee (Ramblewood Park) and Adult Softball (Nevin Park).
