HPU’s Brown, Chaney Earn NCCSIA All-State Basketball Honors

Redshirt-freshman John Brown and graduate student Allan Chaney were named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State team, it was announced on Friday. Brown was named to the first team and Chaney was named to the second team.

The NCCSIA All-State team honors student-athletes from any Division I institution within the state of North Carolina. This year’s men’s basketball honorees represented the Big South, Colonial Athletic Association, Conference USA, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and the Southern Conference.

Brown was High Point’s leading scorer in 2012-13, averaging 16.4 points to go along with 6.1 rebounds per game. He shot 51.9 percent from the field and averaged 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks. Brown scored at least 20 points in 12 games and had four double-doubles. His other honors included Kyle Macy Freshman All-American, Big South Freshman of the Year, All-Big South first team and All-District second team.

Chaney transferred to High Point from Virginia Tech and made an immediate impact, averaging 14.5 points and a team-best 8.1 rebounds in 30 games. He shot 51.3 percent from the field and 80.3 percent from the line along with 1.4 assists per game. H also had a team-high 37 blocks. Chaney was named to the All-Big South second team after sitting out the previous three seasons due to a transfer and health issues. He was named 2012-13 CBSSports.com Comeback Player of the Year.

Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
