NCCSIA Announces 2012-13 North Carolina College Division All-State Men’s Basketball Team

The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2012-13 College Division All-State Men’s Basketball Team on Friday. Ten players representing eight different North Carolina Universities and Colleges were named to the 2012-13 NCCSIA College Division All-State Teams.

UNC Pembroke had two selections on the first-team while Barton College, Queens University of Charlotte and Winston-Salem State University each had one player selected.

Barton standout and Burlington, N.C., native Gerald Boston averaged 22.1 points per game this season and helped lead the Bulldogs to a 23-8 record and their second-straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Along the way, he averaged a team-best 22.1 points, 5.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game, while also ranking eighth, nationally, with an 89.6 percent success rate from the free throw line.

Garner product Antonio Stabler produced 20.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game this season in pacing Queens University of Charlotte to a 15-12 mark. Stabler, who was selected to participate in the 2013 Reese’s Division II College All-Star Game at season’s end, shot 52 percent from the field and 78.2 percent from the charity stripe as well. He finished his collegiate career at Queens ranking seventh on the program’s all-time scoring list.

Shahmel Brackett turned in 16.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists in leading the Braves to a 22-10 clip and their second trip to the NCAA postseason in the last three years. Having finished his career among the Peach Belt Conference’s top 10 scoring leaders, Brackett shot nearly 43 percent from the field in 2012-13, including a deadly 40.4 percent success rate from the perimeter. This is Brackett’s fourth-straight selection to the All-State team.

George Blakeney, a Tarboro, N.C., native, ranked fifth nationally with 14 double-doubles and completed his senior season with averages of 14.7 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. The big man connected on better than 56 percent of his shots from the field and joined Brackett on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-Region squad. He also became the first UNCP player to earn first team all-PBC nods in 17 years.

Justin Glover, a native of Siler City, N.C., averaged 17.3 points per game in leading Winston-Salem State to a 21-7 record and its third-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Glover shot nearly 41 percent from the field, including a 33 percent success rate from 3-point territory, en route to being named first team All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). A defensive stalwart as well, Glover turned in more than two steals per game, while also averaging a paltry 1.4 turnovers an outing as well.

In addition to the first team honorees, five players garnered second team all-state laurels as well. That list includes Wingate’s Odell Turner, Greensboro’s Damian Dixon and Luqman Tijani, Lenoir-Rhyne’s Denzel Dillingham and Guilford’s Josh Pittman.

Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
