College Basketball News – Guilford’s Turpin Named to NABC Honors Court

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College rising senior Clarence Turpin (Roanoke, Va./Roanoke Catholic) was selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ (NABC) Honors Court Thursday. Turpin was one of 700 men’s basketball students from over 285 NCAA and NAIA institutions recognized for exemplary academic performance. The program’s honorees were juniors or seniors who maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher through the 2012-13 year.

A sport management major, Turpin earned a spot on the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) All-Academic Team earlier this week and is a four-time member of Guilford’s Student-Athlete Honor Roll. The accounting minor has completed a sports marketing internship at Wake Forest University.

Turpin has lettered three seasons as a reserve point guard for the Quakers. He appeared in 11 games last season and averaged 0.5 points and 1.0 assists per contest. His best performance came against William Peace University Nov. 17 when he had a career-high three points and four assists, plus a season-best four rebounds. After 31 career contests, Turpin is averaging 0.6 points and 0.7 assists per game.

Turpin helped coach Tom Palombo’s Quakers to a 19-8 overall record, 10-6 in the ODAC. Palombo will return as many as 14 letter winners to Guilford next season, including Turpin.
