The Greensboro Grasshoppers:They do make it interesting!

Final tonight from NewBridge Bank Park:Charleston RiverDogs 7, Greensboro Grasshoppers 5….More from Bill Hass coming in here later on, but here are a few of the highlights from one of the wilder games of the season…

Three home runs for the RiverDogs’ Greg Bird…Solo HR, Two-Run HR and a Three-Run HR….Bird also had an RBI single and he drove in all 7 of the ‘Dogs runs tonight….

The Hoppers Mike Vaughn had what amounted to a Inside-the-Park Double and he scored on a Double that he hit to left center field and then with an error by the Dog’s left fielder Kelvin DeLeon, Vaughn rounded the bases and scored on the double….An Inside-the-Park Double for a score for Vaughn….

In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Hoppers’ Jesus Solarzano hit a home run to right field with the Hoppers down 7-3, but the man on base in front of him that led off the inning with line drive single to right, Viosergy Rosa, thought that the Solarzano long ball was caught by RF Danny Oh and Rosa started going back toward first base and in the process, Solarzano passed Rosa and therefore Solarzano was declared out…..Rosa’s run scored, but Solarzano’s did not….Solarzano credited with a single and not of home run and also declared out….Wonder if he got the RBI?

Charleston’s LF Kelvin DeLeon was injured in the ninth inning going for a foul ball in the Hoppers’ bullpen….DeLeon had to leave the game with injury and therefore the Dogs’ had to move 2B Angelo Gumbs into left field and bring in Francisco Rosario to play at second and the first ball hit to Rosario rolled through his legs for an error and allowed the Hoppers to score another run….That ball had eyes and saw where the new player was standing/playing….

At one stage of the game, the Dogs’ DeLeon was at the plate and fouled a ball off of his body that went fair out in front of the plate, with the bases loaded and the home plate unpire called it fair and the Hoppers’ catcher Mike Vaughn grabbed the ball touched home for the apparent third out…..Out three and the players leave the field and hit the dugout….Hoppers should then be coming to the plate, but the umpires confer and they decide it was a foul ball and they make the players come back out on the field again the Hoppers have to continue the inning on defense and they need to get one more out and they do, to still survive and leave the bases loaded…

A crazy night to say the least, but you do have to say that the Grasshoppers do make it interesting….

  1. Yep I agree hornet. You also have to shake your head on the home run/out in the last inning. I think the Hoppers may be snake bit this year.
