East Men’s Basketball

Bill Boyette
East head coach is entering his 8th season at Terry Sanford High and his 28th season overall…his Terry Sanford teams have gone 156-52 in 7 seasons and won 5 regular season conference titles and 5 conference tournament titles and have twice been state championship runners-up…also coached at Cary High, where he was named AP High School Coach of the Year in 1995, 3-times named Conference Coach of the Year, and where his teams won 4 conference titles and one state championship, Hoggard High, where he was named Conference Coach of the Year 3 times and where his teams won 3 conference titles, and Pine Forest High, where he won one conference title and where he was named Conference Coach of the Year…also coached in the 2011 Jordan Brand Classic…born in Clinton, NC…1976 graduate of Sanderson High where he played football and basketball…played basketball at Louisburg Jr. College…1981 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill where he played JV basketball…says “It is a true honor to have the opportunity to coach in the East-West All-Star Game!”

Tommy Moore
East assistant coach will be beginning his first year at Rolesville High in the fall…he just completed his 16th season at Enloe High where his teams went 250-163 and won 5 conference regular season titles, 2 conference tournament titles and made 12 state playoff appearances…3-times named Conference Coach of the Year…native of Raleigh, NC…1981 graduate of Enloe High where he played basketball, winning 3 conference titles, and football…1984 graduate of Louisburg College and a 1991 graduate of North Carolina Central University…says “I am very honored to have been chosen for this special event.”

West Men’s Basketball

Rob Bliss
West head coach is entering his 3rd season at Foard High where his teams have gone 37-17 in 2 seasons…served as an assistant coach at Freedom High where his team won the 1994 state championship…also served as a head coach at Brevard High, East Burke High, and West Henderson High…in his 17 years as a head coach, his teams have won 4 regular season conference titles, 4 conference tournament titles, and made 17 state playoff appearances…3-times named Conference Coach of the Year and twice named Unifour Coach of the Year…also served as an assistant football coach for 13 years at West Caldwell High, East Burke High, and Freedom High…born in Hickory, NC…1985 graduate of East Burk High where he played football and was named All-Conference in basketball…1989 graduate of Appalachian State University…earned his MA in Administration from Gardner Webb in 2008…says “I am married to Julia Hallyburton Bliss. I have a son, Trey, who is 16, and a daughter, Brianna, who is 14. Coaching in the East-West game is a tremendous honor. Having been chosen in a state with so many outstanding basketball coaches, both current and retired, is truly humbling. As the son of a lifetime coach, I am extremely proud of our profession.”

Al Andrew
West assistant coach is entering his 21st season at Albemarle High where his teams have gone 351-166 in 20 seasons…his teams have won 2 regular season titles, 1 conference tournament title, and made 18 state playoff appearances…4-times named Conference Coach of the Year…served as head baseball coach at Albemarle High for 8 years and was 3-times named Conference Coach of the Year…currently serves as the men’s golf coach where his teams have won 6 conference titles and the 1998 state championship and where he has been named Conference Coach of the Year 8 times…before taking over as head basketball coach, he served as head jv basketball coach with over 100 wins and as an assistant coach under legendary coach Dave Holcomb…also served as an assistant football coach… named baseball coach in the 1993 NC State Games …native of Albemarle, NC…1977 graduate of Albemarle High where he was a 3-year letterman in football, a 2-year letterman in basketball, and a 3-year letterman and 2-time All-Conference selection in baseball…1981 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill…also earned his MA from UNC Chapel Hill in 1984…has coached and taught his entire 29 year career at Albemarle High…says “It is a great honor to be selected as an East-West All-Star coach. I would have never had the career that I’ve enjoyed without the help and guidance of my mentor, Coach Dave Holcomb. I share this honor with him, my assistant coaches, and all my former players.”

East Women’s Basketball

Grady Williams
East head coach is entering his 12th season at Weldon High where his team went 219-51 in 11 seasons…also coached at Northampton-West High…compiled a career record of 359 -100 in 20 seasons…his teams won 14 regular season conference titles, 10 conference tournament titles, made 15 state playoff appearances and were ranked in the Top 10 in the state every year from 1999 to 2009…has been named Coach of the Year 15 times…also has served as the football coach for 25 years, making 20 state playoff appearances…born in Halifax, NC…1982 graduate of Weldon High where he competed in football, basketball, baseball, and track…1989 graduate of Elon College…says “I am very proud and honored to have the opportunity to coach in the East-West All-Star game, and to have the opportunity to represent my school, community, family, and friends. But most of all, I would like to thank all the student-athletes from both Weldon and Northampton-West High Schools, because all of your hard work really made this possible.”

Janie Cofield
East assistant coach is entering her 14th season at Pasquotank County High where she has compiled a career record of 187-129 in 13 seasons…her teams have won 3 regular season conference titles, 3 conference tournament titles, and made 10 state playoff appearances…5-times named NCC Coach of the Year…also served as softball coach at Elizabeth City State University where her team were the 2002 CIAA champions and where she was named CIAA Coach of the Year…born in Elizabeth City, NC…1979 graduate of Northeastern High where she played softball and basketball….1983 graduate of Elizabeth City State University…earned Masters in Athletic Administration from Ohio University in 2012…married to husband Bernard Cofield…says “It is an honor to be selected as assistant coach for the East-West All-Star game. I am thrilled to assist in coaching such a talented group of student-athletes.”

West Women’s Basketball

Amber Fox
West head coach is entering her 10th season as head coach at Freedom High where she has compiled a career record of 180-71 in 9 seasons…she is the second winningest coach in school history…her teams have won 2 regular season conference titles, 4 conference tournament titles, and made 9 state playoff appearances…twice named Conference Coach of the Year…also coaches cross country…coached in the 2009 Charlotte All-Star Classic…has coached 2 former all-star players while at Freedom High…native of Morganton, NC…1997 graduate of Freedom High, where she was a 4-time All-Conference selection and was named All-Region and was a state qualifier in Cross Country, was named All-Conference and All-Region in soccer, was twice named All-Conference in softball and track, and was named All-Conference and won a state championship in basketball…says “I am honored to represent Freedom High School and the state of North Carolina in the East-West All-Star women’s basketball game. I have observed our soccer coach in the event, as well as two of my former players, and remember the excitement and pride I felt for them to be able to take part in such a prestigious event. I believe we have a strong coaches association, and I am thankful that we can showcase our state’s talent in this event. So many coaches begin their careers hoping to be selected to coach in the East-West All-Star game. This is a dream come true for me and an accomplishment that I will cherish for the rest of my career.”

Greg Speight
West assistant coach is entering his 12th season at North Stanly High where his teams have gone 259-49 in 11 seasons…he has compiled a career record of 365-204 in 21 seasons…his teams have won 10 regular season conference titles, and 4 conference tournament titles, and made 11 state playoff appearances…he has been named Conference Coach of the Year 7 times…also coached golf and softball at South Stanly High, earning Coach of the Year honors 4 times and finishing as 1994 state champion runner-up in golf and a 1998 state championship in softball…born in Albemarle, NC…1979 graduate of North Stanly High where he played basketball, baseball, and football…1983 graduate of Wingate University…says “Coaching in this game is a great honor. I look forward to meeting both the players and working with the other coaches.”
