Football Report coming in after Thursday’s opening practices

If you have more news send it our way and we will take all contributors, plus what we have today is Ragsdale will choose between Alec Cobb and Mike Hukill as their starting quarterback this season….Ragsdale will be a very, very young team this season, according to our source, Mike Ellis, at the Jamestown News…

Ragsdale conducted a three-day mini-camp on Monday-Wednesday of this week and began with the official first day of practice on Thursday….The Tigers will look to senior Jerry Gaither as their starting runningback and again they will be young across the board….

Remember when they used to put those blocking dummies on the planks/boards and you used to have to drive them down the boards to practice staying low and you were working on your, ‘straight-on’ blocking….Those were the days and I still remember when they used to have a numbered fire hose out there and you lined up on the numbers of your particular hole along the fire hose and practiced firing off on the fire Tihose, to get the straight-ahead send-off, off of the line…..Lots of football memories and probably would have more, if I wouldn’t have spent so much time laying on that train track and had to keep jumping off when the train would start coming toward the Guilford Collge-Jamestown Road connector….

We gave you a load of Grimsley in our Thursday post, but I did see a Dudley man/fan and he had the plan, the plan was for Dudley to get going at Midnight on late Wednesday/early Thursday morning and they did, for about 45 minutes….Dudley broke their practice up into three short sessions on Thursday with the Midnight hour/45 minutes, then they had a morning workout, followed by a short afternoon meeting….

Coach Steven Davis is running the offense this season and he has turned the defense over to Derek Anderson, long time local high school football coach(Grimsley/Dudley)….Lots of starters back on that Dudley defense and they may need to fill in a gap or two, but they will and the kids seem to be picking up the new schemes quickly….Chris Register, Albert McClain, Elijah Harris, Emmanuel Moseley among the defensive leaders…..

More news, on more teams as we get it coming in…On the road again later on today…
