Kernersville Bulldogs Win the Carolina Virginia League Championship

Trip Dunn and Brandon Burkes powered the Kernersville Bulldogs to the Carolina Virginia League Championship, each hammering homeruns in the 5-0 win at Lenoir Rhyne on Sunday.

Kernersville, the league’s five time regular season champion, used stellar defense in defeating the Roanoke Rails for the league crown.

Kernersville reclaimed the title after losing in the finals in 2012.

GTCC’s Cody Adkins added a double and Joseil Colon a single on the day. Burkes (5-12 with 6 RBI’s and great defense) was selected the tournament MVP while Ray Crawford (5-13 with 6 runs scored)was selected to the All Tourney Team.

Kernersville coached by Dustin Ijames completed the season with a 36-15 record.

Roanoke third baseman DJ Russ also from Greensboro made the CVCL ALL TOURNEY Team. Russ had two game winning hits and played sparking defense in the tourney. Russ attends Emory and Henry in Virginia.
