Nate Thiesfeld Joins HPU Track & Field Staff

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University track & field team has added Nate Thiesfeld as an assistant coach, head coach Mike Esposito announced on Monday. Thiesfeld was a four-time All-Missouri Valley Conference sprinter at Wichita State before working as a graduate assistant coach with the Shockers for two seasons.

“We are very excited to add Nate to the track & field staff,” Esposito said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the sprints, an area we want to continue growing in. “Nate was a fantastic sprinter in his own right and brings a ton of energy and enthusiasm in to his coaching career.”

Thiesfeld will work with HPU student-athletes in the 100-meter through 800-meter dashes. This includes Evan Emery who won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the Big South Outdoor Championship and was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer.

Thiesfeld has spent the last two seasons as a member of the Wichita State coaching staff while working on his master’s degree in sports management. He worked with the sprinters and hurdlers, helping two Shockers, Audacia Moore and Todd McKown to MVC Championships. Thiesfeld also assisted with the cross country program.

As a student-athlete at Wichita State, Thiesfeld was a four-time All-MVC sprinter. He was part of the 2007 indoor DMR relay, as well as the 2010 indoor and outdoor 4×400 relay teams. As a senior in 2010, Thiesfeld won the 400-meter at the indoor championship.

Thiesfeld graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology from Wichita State in December 2009. He also earned a master’s sport management from Wichita State in December 2011.
