15 minutes at 15 schools in 15 days:Day Six up the road at Western Guilford

At Western Guilford this morning and the Hornets had around 72 players in practice today and they hope to get that number up to around 84, once all of the new incoming freshman get in there…

Varsity and JV practices split when we got there and they were wokring on the plays and trying to hone in on the offense…

Let me start off by saying that coach Chris Causey is very excited about this year’s team and that carries right into the new QB, sophomore Deshaun Taylor…

Taylor is 6’2 with a size 14 shoe and the kid is only 14 years old…Taylor will have a very good target to go to, in 6’6 wide receiver Keenan Stephens….

Stephens will be a very big part of the Hornet offense and he will be joined at the other wide-out spot by Tevin Evans, while Rihjan Glover will see time out there too….From the backfield you’ll see Jamal Bovian and Rashad Bovian…Jamal goes RB/LB and Rashad signs in at RB/DB….Glover also plays DB…A large part of the up front blocking will come from Steven Gordon and he takes on the role as the anchor, along the offensive line and will be a big part of the defensive line too…

Western Guilford coach Chris Causey is very pleased with the quality of players that he has on borad for this season and he is very proud of his junior returning linebacker, Kevin Gehsman…Gehsman is a go-getter….He was one of the top tacklers in the Metro Conference last year and he can hold down the middle of the field, as he checks in as the 6’1/215 lb. linebacker….Lots of tackles coming from Gehsman is what the Hornets expect to see in 2013 and he will also give the Hornets a big boost in the offensive backfield, from his fullback position….Gehsman will be chasing many of the Hornet defensive records, before he graduates from Western Guilford….

Western is going with a practice time of 8-11am this week and that will carry them through Saturday morning and then next week, the Hornets will move to 5-7:30 in the afternoon….

The big NewBridge Bank Football Jamboree comes up next Friday at Rockingham County HS and WG will face Rockingham County and Reidsville..

The first game of the season for Western has Morehead at WG and then after that the Hornets have teams like Northwest Guilford, Smith and RJ Reynolds looming on the schedule….

This year Western has moved from 4-A to the 3-A ranks and they’ll find Asheboro, SW Randolph, North Forsyth, Ledford, Southern Guilford and others on the 3-A docket and Coach Causey says Southern Guilford will be the favorite and he really likes his team’s chances too, now that they have found a new home, on the 3-A level………

Time now to get a bit of a closer look at Western Guilford…..And again, Coach Chris Causey is really pumped up, about the upcoming 2013 football season, at Western Guilford High School….
