Dave Doeren, N.C. State’s new football coach, grew up near Kansas City. He was a Chiefs fan and his favorite player was former Appalachian State player Dino Hackett, who was with the Chiefs from 1986 through 1991.

“Dino was the middle linebacker and they were a physical team,” said Doeren, who was speaking in Winston-Salem on Wednesday. “They were a fun team to watch, and he was fun to watch.”
