Report on Tuesday night’s Football Scrimmage Games with Page, Ragsdale and Northern Guilford

Started out at Page with the Pirates and the Eagles of Eastern Alamance…TD run for AJ Capel for Page and for RB #36 for the Pirates…Big tall QG for EA threw a long TD pass and EA also scored on a run….No PA for Page at this one and you pretty much went with what you were seeing and I saw the Pirates Jalen Gavin come up with the “Hit of the Day” and that includes for all three of the games that we saw tonight….”Hit of the Day” again goes to Jalen Gavin from Page, who came up and made a big hit to break up a pass play and laid out the receiver from Eastern Alamance….Clean hit and just a good “come-up-and-make-the-stick-play for Gavin….Lorenzo Featherston had a stick on a sack and he came up with more penetration into the EA backfield and turned in a Tackle for a Loss….The game was tied at two tochdowns each for Page and EA, when I left out for Northern Guilford….JV’s and Varsity both running at Page and QB Dominique Britt led the #1 offense for Page and Jalen Gavin directed the #2 unit….

Varsity only at Northern Guilford and Ragsdale scored three times and came out on top of McMichael…I did not see McMichael score and I had at three touchdowns for Ragadale and none for MAC….The Ragsdale Tigers got a TD catch from Tevin Quick on a pass from Alec Cobb…Ragsdale’s other QB, Mike Hukill connected with T.J. Parker for a Tiger TD Tally….Hukill and Cobb both showed positive signs for the Tigers at the QB spot and Jerry Gaither led the Ragsdale runningbacks, but the other Ragsdale TD from backup RB Kaleem McGregor….Gaither was running long and strong all night long…Quick and Parker very impressive as the Tiger WR’s….Xan Swaim led the defensive charges, while Sydney Thompson and Bryce Walker also turned in steady defensive performances….Able to get more names at NG, since they had the Public Address Announcer letting us in on the info such as runs, catches, tackles and more…..Aaron Washington was making plays tonight for the Ragsdale defense also…..

In the Northern vs. Marlboro County, South Carolina game, they kicked off, punted, kicked extra points and did all the major details, although they did not return any of the kicks….Just field the punts and the kickoffs and hold your ground…Three TD passes for NG QB Austin Coltrane and a long touchdown run by new RB CJ Freeman….Freeman broke free for right at a 55-yard TD run…..

Final on Northern Guilford-Marlboro County(in the Bennettsville, S.C. area) was 28-14, Northern….Scoring went 7-0 Marlboro men early as they ripped off a 90-yard touchdown run on the Northern defense….NG came right back and hit the Bennettsville bunch with 30-yard pass play, going from QB Austin Coltrane to Mook Reynolds….The Coltrane PAT kick was good and it was 7-7 with the Marlboro men and the Nighthawks…Coltrane gets rolling again and hits Chris Ripberger with a 5-yard TD pass and the AC(Austin Coltrane) kick is good, now 14-7 Nighthawks over the MC Bulldogs…Coltrane delivered another TD toss, with this one going to Daniel Kelly for 25 yards into the west end zone and with aonther Coltrane kick, we are at 21-7 Hawks…Marlboro got smoking one more time and they burned one on the Nighthawks and made this game tight again at 21-14….

CJ Freeman then put the game out of reach with his long run of the night, taking it up field for 55 yards and right on into the promised land for six more Nighthawk points…With the final PAT kick of the night, the final would stand at 28-14 Nighthawks….Neither team could mount a threat with clock running non-stop in the third and final quarter with 12 minutes of non-stop clock, but no points showing up on the scoreboard in the final period…..

Coltrane looked steady and good at QB, Freeman ran hard and didn’t have a load of long runs with the exception of the 55-yarder for the TD…Reynolds and Harris were solid at the wideouts and Trey Marsh also made some nice receptions…..Backup QB Myles Simmons saw time under center in the 3rd and final quarter…TJ Ruff was tough on defense and he got plenty of help from Robert Wilcox…..Matthew McGeary’s name made it to the PA for a few tackles too…Daniel Kelly was another impressive Hawk on this Night….

Northern will next meet Boiling Springs Crest at Kings Mountain in their next scrimmage this Friday night…Ragsdale will be in the NewBridge Bank Jamboree on Friday night and Page is done with their scrimmages unless they were able to find another opponent for the end of this week….

That is our report for tonight and we plan to be at Grimsley for the Jamboree on Wednesday evening….More notes, then it is your turn now to fill us in…..Get the chat going and let us know what you thought, if you were at tonight’s games…..
