High Point Andrews – Head Coach Rodney McCoy

Returning 29 seniors and 55 total players, High Point Andrews Head Football Coach Rodney McCoy feels blessed with the talent and skill level surrounding him this 2013 season.

The regular season kicks off with conference foe High Point Central. Last year Andrews fell to Central, but Coach McCoy looks to jump start this season on opening day.

“We want to win the game first and foremost,” said McCoy. “The biggest thing is to get off to a good start and be consistent.”

Andrews has one more scrimmage Friday at Smith on Friday.

Senior running back Marquell Cartwright Jr. is set to lead the rushing attack for the Red Raiders.

“He’s unselfish, he does everything and he will block,” said McCoy. “If I need him to play on the offensive line he will do that.”

Senior stud quarterback Lamar Raynard will remain a significant piece to the success puzzle if Andrews plan on a ring ceremony at the end of the season.

“He’s hugely accurate, which is his biggest asset,” said McCoy. “The critical part of our success is that he doesn’t make a lot of mistakes.”

Other players that will make an impact for Andrews’s offense include seniors’ running back Ronte Wilkes, wide receivers Justin Lee and Carlos Manning, and offensive guard Brighton Pierce.

“We run behind Pierce predominately in our running game,” said McCoy. “It’s no secret what we do offensively.”

Senior cornerback Jo Jo White and Ivan Millekan heads the defense. Both are battling minor injuries, but should be a go for the first game.

Also on defense, senior linebacker Mark Love looks to complete yet another all-conference performance.

“We like to feel like we can stop people,” said McCoy. “You have to play good defense and stop the run. That recipe works for us.”

“Everybody is the team to beat,” said McCoy. “I look at everybody the same. We go against every opponent the same with respect.”

Practices will be held 5:00 – 6:30 Monday – Wednesday and Thursday at 4:30 for an hour when school starts.
