“Philanthropy is one of the core values at Wyndham Worldwide and has always been a cornerstone of the Wyndham Championship. We are focused on enhancing the quality of children’s lives around the world and making a lasting contribution to the communities where we live and work,” said Stephen P. Holmes, chairman and chief executive officer, Wyndham Worldwide. “With each passing year of the tournament, we further strengthen our company’s relationship with the Piedmont Triad community, and we appreciate the warm welcome we receive every year.”

During the tournament, held at Sedgefield Country Club from August 15-18, spectators were encouraged to vote on-site at kiosks to help determine which local charity would receive $100,000 from Wishes by Wyndham in the third annual Charity of Choice campaign. Hope Lodge received the most votes and was presented with a check during a special ceremony after the golf tournament’s trophy presentation.

American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge offers cancer patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when their best hope for effective treatment may be in another city. Not having to worry about where to stay or how to pay for lodging allows guests to focus on getting well. Hope Lodge provides a nurturing, home-like environment where guests can retreat to private rooms or connect with others. Every Hope Lodge also offers a variety of resources and information about cancer and how best to fight the disease. Currently, there are 31 Hope Lodge locations throughout the United States.

“It is a tremendous honor to be named the Charity of Choice, and we would like to thank everyone who voted for us,” said David Roscoe, manager, Hope Lodge, Greenville, N.C. “This donation from Wishes by Wyndham means we’ll be able to refurbish our lodge in Greenville which is a little more than 11 years old and needs to be updated for the benefit and enjoyment of our guests. We are extremely fortunate to have Wyndham Worldwide and Wishes by Wyndham bring a world-class event to the Piedmont Triad area every year.”

The charitable giving didn’t stop with the Charity of Choice campaign. Wishes by Wyndham donated to local charitable organizations through its “Birdies for Charity” competition, a golf video game tournament held on-site at the championship. For each birdie made during the video game tournament, Wishes by Wyndham donated money to local charitable organizations.

Children attending the Wyndham Championship also helped other young people in need. The Wishes by Wyndham Christel House Tapestry Painting, a six-foot by four-foot tapestry featuring a black and white golf-themed image, was on-site for kids to color and bring to life with paint. The tapestry will be auctioned at a future Christel House International fundraiser. A Wishes by Wyndham signature charity, Christel House International’s mission is to help children around the world break the cycle of poverty, realize their hopes and dreams, and become self-sufficient, contributing members of society.

Wishes by Wyndham also donated to the Kevin Harvick Foundation, which works with underprivileged children to help improve their lives and the PGA TOUR Wives Association, which supports and provides assistance to needy children and their families.
