SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE ANNOUNCES 2013 ANNUAL ALL-STAR TEAM:
Utility Outfielder….Cameron Flynn…Greensboro Greensboro Grasshoppers
ST. PETERSBURG. FLORIDA–Eric Krupa, President of the South Atlantic League, announced the selection of the 2013 Annual All-Star Team, which includes a spot for a relief pitcher for the first time in the league’s history. The All-Star Team was voted on by the 14 South Atlantic League Team’s Field Managers, General Managers, Sports Writers and Broadcasters for a total of 56 votes.
The Annual All-Star Team was highlighted by the selections for Most Outstanding Pitcher, Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and Most Valuable Player. Gabriel Ynoa of the Savannah Sand Gnats was selected as the Most Outstanding Pitcher. Ynoa has a 14-4 record and an ERA of 2.71 in 21 games. Rosell Herrera, shortstop for the Asheville Tourists, was chosen as the Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and the Most Valuable Player. Herrera is leading the league with a .343 batting average, 162 hits and 243 total bases in 126 games.
Tripp Keister of the Hagerstown Suns has been selected as Manager of the 2013 Annual All-Star Team. Frank Viola of the Savannah Sand Gnats was chosen to be the Coach of the 2013 Annual All-Star team. The Asheville Tourists and Hickory Crawdads each had three players named to the Annual All-Star Team. The Tourists representatives include Tom Murphy (catcher), Rosell Herrera (shortstop and Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and Most Valuable Player) and Francisco Sosa (outfielder). The Crawdads contributed Joey Gallo (third base), Nick Williams (outfielder) and Ryan Rua (designated hitter). The West Virginia Power placed two players on the team, including Tyler Glasnow (right-handed pitcher) and Josh Bell (outfielder). Charleston, Greensboro, Hagerstown, Kannapolis Lexington, and Rome each had one representative on the All-Star Team. Charleston’s Greg Bird (first base), Greensboro’s Cameron Flynn (utility outfielder), Hagerstown’s Tony Renda (utility infielder), Kannapolis’ Micah Johnson (second base), Lexington’s Daniel Stumpf (left-handed pitcher) and Rome’s Shae Simmons (relief pitcher) complete the 2013 All-Star lineup.
