  1. 4:00 minutes left in the third quarter and Northern is up 14-0 but Page is not out of this!

  2. Page offense is terrible, their special team and defense is all they got, too many dumb mistakes tonight

  3. Wow SG looked helpless tonight. My Whirlies looked strong. I dread hearing from John tonight looks like the Nighthawks had a little more vandalizing to do at Marion Kirby. Purple stink pickle left on the field.

  4. Reidsville 28 Rock 7 … Rock beat themselves tonight 2 or more interceptions and 2 fumbles on the goal line

  5. Another great performance by the Whirlie Defense. I don’t think SG got across midfield the whole game.

  6. nice win nighthawks. y’all have a solid looking team this year. good luck on the rest of the season. Page turned the ball over too much to beat a good team that’s well coached.

  7. Congrats to Northern. They played well enough to win. They struggled a lot on offense, turned the ball over on downs at least twice. Their QB has a quick release and that somewhat negated Page’s pass rush.

Two of Northern’s 3 scores came on short fields. One after a Dominique Britt fumble deep in their own territory, and one on a bad punt. Page had to punt from their own goal line and the Page punter shanked it and gave Northern the ball at the 30 or so. Northern had one long drive for a TD ,set up by a long pass. Northern’s running game did not impress me. They have no game breaker. Plus Northern inexplicably called a fake punt up 21-0 with 6 minutes left. Page stuffed it, and then Jalen Gavin threw a long TD pass to finally get Page on the scoreboard.

Page got the ball again on another terrible special team play by Northern. The punter fielded a low snap and then tried to pass for the first down. Page picked it off and returned it to the 2 yard line. Gavin took it in and it was 21-14 with 3 minutes left. Page was back in it.

That’s when it got weird. Page had the ball again inside 3 minutes deep in Northern territory (Northern committed two back to back personal foul penalties-they really were doing all they could to give the game over to Page). Britt…I don’t know if it was an audible or by design but he took the snap directly from center and tried to do a quick run…but he fumbled. It was his fourth turnover of the night (two lost fumbles, two picks). Northern takes over and on second down the runner is brought down behind the line of scrimmage. Everyone on the Page side thought it was a safety. Was it? I did not have an angle, sitting far on the other side. Obviously Kevin Gillespie thought it was a safety and he came out on the field to argue during Page’s last time out. He was flagged unsportsmanlike conduct, automatic first down for Northern. Ball game. I can’t blame the refs for this; the coach can’t lose his head like that. This one is on Gillespie. His playcalling wasn’t all that hot either.

Page’s offense has a lot of problems. What is the point of a no-huddle if you stand there staring at the sideline while the play clock runs down? The offensive line could not sustain blocks. Northern’s defense is pretty tough. How this offense scored 32 points last week I don’t know. They’ll improve, I’m sure, but we needed a lot better performance. Gavin may be the answer at QB. He threw the best pass of the night. Britt needs a lot of work.

Page’s defense kept us in the game. Our defensive backs stayed in there, covered pretty well and our run defense was fine. This could be setting up like last year, lose a few games early, get the kinks out by the time conference play starts.

Northern will struggle if they don’t get a running game. And for a team up by 21 they showed a remarkable lack of poise when they should have iced the game. But they won. Scoreboard says so.

Now let’s see if Northern “fans” can win with class. I won’t hold my breath.

  8. that about sums it up John, good re-cap.

Northern’s offense or any offense for that matter is usually about 2 weeks behind the D at the start of every season.

Also, thing is, year after year Northerns’s D will make most opponents offense look be-fuddled…it’s the way they swarm to the ball, usually 5-6 in on every tackle the minute the ball is released to a back or on a pass.

Way to go Nighthawks…learn from this one.

  9. For the life of me I could not tell if it was a safety or not on that call. Who had a better view (our seats were on the far side of the band on the Page side)? Not that it really mattered; you can’t have your QB turn the ball over 4 times and win. Time for Page to regroup and move on. Big game next week on the road.

  10. I could have almost written John’s game highlights and I didn’t even attend the game.

    -our couch sucks
    -our kids suck
-refs blew the game for us
-but luckily the winning team sucks too
-everybody sucks cause we lost but this is what we did last year so it’s all good

It will all be better next week John. Hang in there man!

  11. On the safety question: Forward Progress.

Ball carrier was driven backwards, so ball is spotted at point of forward progress which was out by 4-5 yard line.

  12. Never said our kids suck. I just call ’em like I see ’em. I love the Page players. Gillespie lost his cool and you can’t do that.

If you can’t handle the truth, stop reading. Dipstick.

  13. I was sitting on the Northern side at about the 10 yd line. It was definitely not a safety. His fwd progress was stopped at about the 5 and page def kept pushing him back into the end zone. Don’t know why Page coach even argued. It really wasn’t close to being a safety. But you’re right Northern did all they could to give the game away. Give Page credit, they fought till the end and had the momentum the last 5 min. I think Page should’ve kept running the ball between the tackles. They seem to get good chunks doing that. Page is gonna be good this year, glad we won’t see them again. I still don’t know about Northerns Offense. Page kept their safety’s in the box and stuffed the run and dared them to throw. It looks like northern will have to air it out more this year.

  14. I try to offer encouragement and that is the thanks I get. You have hurt my feelings now and I am going to bed. Dipstick…out.

    GO WHIRLIES!!!

  15. For once in along time the Page and Grimsley game should actually be good this year instead of Page blowing them out like the past 8 years

  16. Looked like the runner was stopped at point of contact, just outside the end zone and then thrown back into the end zone by the Page defense…

Think it might have been Ripberger on the carry…There ref was there, so he get to make the call and let’s hope it was the right one…..

I give the Page coaches and players a lot of credit for battling back in this one…The were down three TD’s and keep battling and got back in the game and cut the lead to one TD and had the chance for a tie on the way with the fumble on second and 10 from the NG 12 yard line….

The Northern defense really looked good for most of the game they were swarming early in this one and they were all over the ball….

NG beat a good Page team that can get better and they will need to as they get ready for next week…Page at Butler next week???

Northern has Northwest Guilford coming in and the Vikings have been rolling over teams(Smith and Western Guilford) to start the season…..NWG will be a very strong running game out to Spencer Dixon Road next Friday night, but that Northern ‘D’ is tough and they swarm to that football…

Loved how the Page-NG game got tight at the end…..Made for a great atmosphere for the fans and there must have been 6,000 there for the game tonight…..

Surprise team of the year so far and I know it still early, but is it Grimsley or is it Eastern Guilford???

Again lots of defense in the Page-NG game tonight and it seemed like that score stayed at 0-0 forever…..

  17. Nothing like a page fan to thrown their own under the bus. They not only ran the bus over the QB Britt but they keep backing it over him. Give the kid a break. He’s trying.

  18. The surprise team of the year is not Grimsley, Eastern Guilford, or any other Guilford team. It’s the Morehead Panthers who are 2-0 on the young season with Reidsville rolling into Eden next week. If they get past Reidsville, watch out, confidence within those boys will be sky high.

  19. If Gillispie didn’t get the call against him, he was right in the running with it because from where I was sitting (50 yard line) it looked as if he was in a heated conversation with the ref. How the call went to an assistant is beyond me! In all the years I’ve seen Coach, I can’t recall him ever losing his cool like he did tonight. At any cost, I need to sign off and get ready for DeAnthony’s time tomorrow!
    .
    Take care, peeps!

  20. Like it matters…Page always finds an excuse! Now on to the little Vikings! 5 in a row NW!!! LOL

  21. I’m fairly certain that Coach G was just angered that the refs were taking about a year and a half to start the play clock every down. Northern ran off about 10 extra seconds one time due to poor officiating. Not to say Page didn’t shoot themselves in the foot, but the refs did not help at the end.

  22. Is western that bad? How do they look? I heard they have good skilled position players but no line?

  23. Folks, Dudley is for real!! Been watching Ragsdale play Dudley for 10 years plus and this may be their best team. Ragsdale played tough in 2nd half but talking about “big” and “fast”. Also, You can tell Dudley is well coached as their players play with a lot of class. Good luck to you guys the rest of the way!!

  24. NW Guilford Defense had two pick 6 and had 5 Ints! Great night for the Vikings defense!

  25. Congrats to Dudley coach Stephen Davis on getting his 100th career victory tonight against the Ragsdale tigers. His teamed played very well… Coach Davis has won all 100 of his games as the Dudley head football coach.. All in 9 years

  26. Glad to hear that my alma mater did as well as they did. I’m proud of how my team played tonight despite missing TJ Logan and Coach Roscoe. I believe that teams should tread lightly around Northern as although they took a big hit on both sides of the line and a substantial loss in the running game, they are still a threat in the conference. It will be interesting to see how they develop through the next few weeks. Glad to hear the defense is doing as well as they have in the past. Coach Thomas is doing a superb job with the team.

Andy, it was great hearing your voice all the way from Wilmington, NC. Hope you are doing well. Thank you as always for the wonderful work you do. Hope to see you at the usual spot sometime this season.

Glad to hear that Greensboro High School Football is starting off with a bang. Can’t wait to see what this season holds.

  27. Grimsley is definitely much improved over a year ago. They still have some holes, when it comes to running the ball. They are able to spread the ball around and hurt you down the field with some of their weapons. As far as SG goes they have been hit by a major injury bug. They have lost 10 players in the past few weeks, with 8 being starters. Also lost their QB for the season with a broken collarbone.

  28. Dudley looked awesome on defense tonight and I still think there is some room for them to improve. Probably should have been a shutout as Ragsdale could not move that ball at all until the 2nd half of the game. there is still concern about senseless penalties that Dudley will have to overcome. Ragsdale will improve and be just fine come conference time.

Tonite’s win was dedicated to Mr. Quinton Crosby who passed away of cancer on Thursday. Good family man, played football, soccer and ran track back in the 90s for Dudley and coached wrestling at Dudley and passed away way too young. We luv you coach!

  29. Whose the “BOSS” in this area?

Oh and on your polls selection, please stop with those ties for number #2 spots. Either you are #2 or you are not. Pecking order is Northern, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

  30. Carlos no the correct final score was 60-0. Check HP Enterprise and add it up. Plus I was there reporting on it.

  31. Here is what Michael Lindsay had in the first paragraph of his HPE post at Hpe.com….I still need to go back and add it up….

This getting a little crazy here….What was it, 66-0 or 60-0 and I guess with it being that much out of hand it does not make a difference, but it would still be good to get it right…

Need to now go back and get my HPE paste, since I just pasted my comment here for sure setting…Back after this…..

HIGH POINT —T.W. Andrews made it clear that it’s a very good football team.

After struggling in the second half in losing to High Point Central last week, the Red Raiders roared past Southwest Guilford 66-0 on Friday night in Simeon Stadium — dominating virtually the entire game, both on offense and defense.

“The intensity was high in practice (this week),” senior quarterback Lamar Raynard said. “No playing around, we were focused the whole time, and it showed tonight. We played good tonight. After we lost the first game last year, we had the same mentality. We’re going to focus and play football, and that’s what we did tonight too.”

  32. The score was 66-0.

Says alot about the Bison’s defense to hold Andrews to only 7 points just a week ago.

  33. Either way SW lost but if you add it up its 60 not 66. And add it by what’s printed under the box score.
