Greensboro College Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Guilford In Season Opener 2-0

Greensboro College men’s soccer team defeated cross town rival Guilford College to open the 2013 season by a final score of 2-0.

Greensboro wasted little time in the first half with a goal in the 17th minute from Earl Floyd that was collected off a blocked shot by the Pride.

As time continued to pass in the first half, The Pride kept the pressure on by controlling the possession. Juan Vivas was in the right place, at the right time to get his first goal of his career on a deflection off his side and into the goal. With that tally, The Pride took a 2-0 lead into the half.

In the second half, Greensboro continued to control the pace and momentum, with six more shots, including a shot by Drew Clukey in the 77th minute that hit off the crossbar.

The Pride outshot the Quakers in the game by a 18-6 margin and 11-2 mark of shots on goal. Earl Floyd recorded a game high four shots, with two on goal. Mark Wleh also contributed two shots of goal for The Pride. Greensboro keeper Manbi Nyepon picked up the shutout victory in the goal for The Pride with two saves.

Greensboro men’s soccer team will return to action on Sunday, September 2nd against Catholic.
