College Cross Country Results – Guilford Men Third, Women 10th at ODAC Preview Meet

FARMVILLE, Va. – Guilford College seniors Chad Norton, Andris Goncarovs and David Cason finished 1-2-3 among college runners in Friday’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Preview Cross Country meet at the Manor Golf Course. The trio helped the Quakers placed third in the 11-team meet, just two points behind Washington and Lee University for second place. Christopher Newport University handily won the race with 54 points, followed by Washington and Lee (106) and Guilford (114).

Guilford’s women placed ninth among 10 teams with 239 points. Christopher Newport placed all five scorers among the top-10 finishers and won by 15 points over second-place Washington and Lee.

Norton finished the eight-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 59 seconds, a little over 45 seconds behind winner Brian Flynn, the former Lynchburg College All-American running unattached. Norton’s time is the fourth-fastest of his career and the 12th-best time in school history. Goncarovs followed in 26:20.40 and Cason in a personal-best 26:39.80. His fourth-place finish in the race is also the best of his career.

Guilford freshman Nick Reynolds made his college cross country debut with a 46th-place finish in 29:41.20. Senior Patrick Westervelt rounded out the Quakers’ scoring with a 79th-place time of 32:02.90.

Sophomore Rebecca Reyna paced the Quakers’ women with a 34th-place time of 26:12.20 on the six-kilometer course. Her time marks a new career low. Pasangi Perera also set a personal best with a time of 27:34.90 that ranked 50th in the 91-runner field. Rookie Naomi Madras came home 59th in 28:23.60.

Coach Danny Cash’s cross country teams are back in action Friday at the Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, N.C.
