N.C. State looking to run under Dave Doeren, plus Clemson #4 and FSU #10 in AP Poll

Best ranking in 25 years for the Clemson Tigers, in this week’s Associated Press College Football Top 25 Poll and the Florida State Seminoles are in at #10 in the poll, after last night’s big win by FSU over ACC newcomer, the Pitt Panthers….Louisville and Notre Dame are also in the poll, but they are not yet officially in the Atlantic Coast Conference….CLICK HERE for the new Top 25 Poll from the AP….

N.C. State lost one of their all-time best athletic administrators yesterday, when Frank Weedon passed away…Weedon was the Sports Information Director at State from 1960-1872 and he worked in the athletic department there for 45 years and you always hear him name being mentioned on the Wolfpack football and basketball broadcasts…

The word is the Pack will be on the run under new head football coach Dave Doeren….They say the Pack is looking back toward the days of backs like Anthony Barbour, Ted Brown, Stan Fritts, Charley Young and Willie Burden….One name they left out in their field report was that of Roland Hooks….Hooks was also an exceptional runningback….

Ted Brown to the Vikings, Stan Fritts to the Bengals, Hooks to the Bills, Young to the Cowboys and Burden to the CFL among other teams and some of the backs didn’t last forever, but they did OK in the pros….

New backs on the run include Ryan Dayes, Tony Creecey and the soon-to-return Shadrack Thornton…..

State has been known to run before and they may run even more, if they can get Brandon Mitchell back before season’s end, but it is a real safe to say, that this is the new way and when Dave Doeren has his say, the Pack will be ready to run in 2013…

Not too many backfields over the years at any ACC school can compare to that quartet of Stan Fritts, Charley Young, Willie Burden and Roland Hooks…..You could do a lot with those four guys showing up in your parking lot on Saturday morning…..
