HPU’s Crawford Named Big South Runner Of The Week

High Point University senior Patrick Crawford has been named Big South Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. Crawford placed second in the Western Carolina University Invitational last Friday in Cullowhee, N.C.

Crawford finished second in the 5K race with a time of 15:02.34, just behind Mark Parrish of the University of Florida.

Crawford’s second-place finish led the Panthers to a second-place team showing, behind the University of Florida. High Point beat Big South foes, UNC Asheville (fifth), Winthrop (seventh) and Gardner-Webb (ninth).

In the women’s race, Panther’s freshman Cozette Collin placed ninth on the two-mile course with a time of 11:27.43. Collin’s finish garnered her Big South Women’s Honorable Mention for the week.

High Point will return to action on Sept. 14 in the Furman University Cross Country Classic in Greenville, S.C. The Panthers will then run in the VMI Invitational on Sept. 21, a preview of the men’s Big South Championship on the same course on Nov. 2.
