College Women’s Soccer Final – Methodist 5, Guilford 1

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Katie Pedersen netted three goals and added an assist in Methodist University’s 5-1 soccer win over visiting Guilford College Wednesday.

Pedersen netted the game’s opening goal in the 15th minute and set up a Taylor Cavazos tally three minutes later for an early 2-0 Monarchs’ lead.

Guilford’s Kelli Uresti got the Quakers (0-3) on the board 15 seconds after the Cavazos score and brought the visitors to within 2-1.

Pedersen collected her second goal in the 29th minute, which gave Methodist a 3-1 halftime advantage. She completed the hat trick in the 75th minute to complete the game’s scoring.

Guilford’s Abby Gove made nine saves in goal and Sarah Hayden had one for the Monarchs (1-2).

The Quakers play this weekend in the Meredith College Classic in Raleigh. Guilford meets Salem College Saturday (9/7) and the State University of New York at New Paltz Sunday (9/8) at noon.
