College Volleyball Results – Guilford Goes 1-1 on Final Day of Greensboro Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s volleyball team went 1-1 in Sunday’s second and final day of the Greensboro College Invitational. The Quakers (3-5) opened with a 3-0 win over Agnes Scott College before falling to Roanoke College, 3-1.

Senior Brittany Freeman had a match-high 12 kills on .310 hitting with eight digs in the Quakers’ 25-17, 26-24, 25-16 victory over Agnes Scott. Sophomore Kelsey Ruehling added a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior Malikah French put away nine kills on .316 hitting. Classmate Meredith Foscue picked up 13 digs and served up four aces, both team highs. Senior Taylor Whitley had 32 assists, seven digs and two service aces.

Morgan Bender paced the Scotties (1-6) with nine kills, while Natali Rendon added seven putaways, plus a team-best 14 digs. Kayleigh McCrary had 12 assists.

Samantha Klostermann hit .400 and slammed home 24 kills in Roanoke’s 25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-16 win in Guilford’s second match. She also picked up 16 digs and accounted for 25.5 points. Macey Tyree added 13 kills and a match-best 24 digs.

Freeman led Guilford for the fourth straight match with 11 kills and also added nine digs. French added seven kills and junior Michaela Wall had six. Whitley served up four aces and had 30 assists.

Freeman averaged 3.5 kills per set and totaled 56 putaways in the four weekend matches. She also had 32 digs (2.0 digs per set) and represented Guilford on the all-tournament team.

Coach Emily Gann’s team opens Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Wednesday (9/11) at Bridgewater College.
