ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team released its 2013 fall schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 10, as announced by head coach Kathy Bocock. The Phoenix will open its fall slate this Sunday, Sept. 15, with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. against Pfeiffer University at Hunt Softball Park.

“We are very excited to open up our fall schedule this Sunday,” said Bocock. “This is the first time that we’re going to be hosting opponents at Hunt Softball Park during the fall and it’s a opportunity for our fans to see the team and the newcomers in a competitive atmosphere. It’s also a chance for us as a coaching staff to see where we’re at moving forward heading into the spring.”

Elon hosts three contests overall during the fall, including a matchup with North Carolina Central on Friday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. and a meeting against Lenoir Rhyne a week later on Sept. 27, at 7 p.m.

The Phoenix will visit Raleigh, N.C., for the Ray Chandler Memorial Tournament, beginning on Sept. 29. Elon will face host NC State at 10 a.m. before closing out the tournament against Greensboro College at 12 p.m.

The fall season concludes on Saturday, Oct. 5, as the maroon and gold travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., for a doubleheader against the Tar Heels. The first game is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Elon returns 17 players from last year’s squad, including senior outfielder Carleigh Nester. Nester was a 2013 All-Southern Conference First Team honoree and a NFCA All-South Region First Team selection as a junior.
