2014 HPU Men’s Lacrosse Schedule Announced

SCHEDULE

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men’s lacrosse team will play a challenging schedule in its second season. The Panthers will play their first season as part of the Atlantic Sun Conference and face a tough non-conference slate that includes defending the NCAA champion Duke.

“We are very fortunate to have great programs coming to Vert Stadium this season, including Duke and North Carolina,” said head coach Jon Torpey. “Anytime you can play the defending national champion at home it is a great thing for the program. I am very excited to play our first season in the Atlantic Sun. The chance to win a conference championship and advance to the NCAA tournament gives the team an extra something to work toward.”

HPU will play a five-game Atlantic Sun schedule beginning with a home contest against Jacksonville on March 1. The Panthers will also face league opponents VMI (March 8) and Mercer (March 22) at home. High Point will travel to Furman (March 29) and Richmond (April 12) for ASun games.

The Panthers will start the season with road games at Delaware (Feb. 1) and Towson (Feb. 8). HPU beat Towson last year for the first win in program history. The Tigers went on to advance to the NCAA tournament.

High Point will have rematches with several more of last year’s opponents, including Saint Joseph’s, Michigan, UMBC, Duke, North Carolina and Drexel. The Panthers will wrap up the season with a three-game home stand against Duke (April 16), UNC (April 18) and Drexel (April 26).

The Atlantic Sun Tournament will be held on May 1-3. The location of the tournament is still being decided.
