College Volleyball Final – Bridgewater 3, Guilford 1

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Katie Long put away a match-high 16 kills and Abby Mills added 12 in Bridgewater College’s 25-14, 18-25, 25-20, 25-17 volleyball win over Guilford College Wednesday night in both teams’ Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener.

Long had six kills and Mills added five in the first set, which helped Bridgewater (6-3, 1-0 ODAC) to a .433 team hitting percentage in the frame. The Eagles served up 11 aces on the night, including three by Mara Hogan in the third set. Shannon Skellcock had a match-best four aces and Lindsay Kallam had a team-high 33 assists. Megann Grimes added 10 kills on .389 hitting and Hogan finished with a club-best 13 digs.

Brittany Freeman’s 13 kills and nine digs paced the Quakers (3-6, 0-1 ODAC). Malikah French put away 10 balls on a season-best .562 hitting, and also had three blocks. Maile Munro set up 20 assists and Taylor Whitley added eight.

Coach Emily Gann’s club opens its home schedule Friday night (9/13) at 6:00 p.m. against league-rival Lynchburg College.
