College Women’s Volleyball: Guilford 3, Randolph 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College earned its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win of the season with a 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 23-25, 25-13) win over Randolph Saturday afternoon at Ragan Brown. The win upped the Quakers’ record to 4-7 overall, 1-2 in the ODAC. The Wildcats fell to 5-4 (0-3 ODAC).

The Quakers had little time to dwell on Friday night’s setback to Lynchburg and came out against Randolph determined to get back on the winning track. They jumped out to a 14-8 lead and cruised to a nine-point win in the opening set.

The second set played out in similar fashion and midway through the third it looked like the Quakers were going to have a quick day. But the Wildcats battled back from a 23-20 deficit, with Lexi Harrington serving out the set to bring Randolph within one set.

But Guilford quashed any hopes the visitors had of a comeback, with Meredith Foscue’s strong all-around play leading the Quakers to victory. Three Guilford players finished with double-digit kills, led by Brittany Freeman with 16.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday, as they travel to Winston-Salem to take on the Spirits in a non-conference match at 6:30 pm.
