Brian Seagraves and Dell Seagraves ready to be inducted into the Dudley Panthers Hall of Fame

Dell Seagraves(Dudley HS/Washington Redskins/Greensboro Prowlers) and Brian Seagraves(Dudley HS/N.C. A&T) are going to be inducted into the Dudley Sports Hall of Fame.

Both of the Seagraves young men played football and basketball at Dudley High School for the Panthers and both were highly successful and Brian went to play college basketball for the N.C. A&T Aggies and now Brian Seagraves is the head coach for the Dudley Panthers men’s basketball team….

Dell Seagraves, and I think Brian and Dell were cousins, and we are not sure what college Dell attended, but we know he made the tryout camp with the Washington Redskins and played for the local arena football team the Greensboro Prowlers, among other teams….Dell was toug-nosed, tall and strong linebacker and Brian was the floor general, as the point guard for the Dudley basketball team….Both Brian and Dell played for a tough-nosed former Marine, Steve Hankins, during their basketball time at Dudley and the story goes that they made it the West Regional Finals one year all the way up at Tuscola, in the North Carolina mountains and the team had to take their SAT tests that Saturday morning and after the tests, they had to rush up to Tuscola and they were just not ready to play that game that night/afternoon, after the sitting through the 4-5 hour test that morning….

Just an interesting story that I remember hearing from back in the day….Who knows, maybe under a different set of circumstances, there might be another NCHSAA 4-A State Basketball Title at Dudley…..You never know, but I bet Coach Hankins could tell you a thing or two, about that Saturday game…..

Congrats to the Seagraves(Brian and Dell) on being selected to enter the Dudley High School Athletics/Sports Hall of Fame……

  1. That’s a good call on the Pitt Panthers, a real good call and thanks…..Pitt was it, back in those days…

Back when they had guys like Tony Dorsett, Hugh Green, Matt Cavanaugh, Dan Marino and more, they were a special program in those days…..Don’t seem as relevant these days…..

  2. Brian was a 2-guard. Glen Hayes ran the point. 1991 team was the best team Dudley has ever had, hands down. USA Today had them at 16th in the country at one point. Beat teams by an average of 25-30ppg that season.
