I can honestly say that I was guilty of some of the points listed in the article, but as the years went on, I realized that I am there to support my child, the team and the coach. It’s much more fun! Now I find myself moving away from those parents who are constantly negative throughout the game because I just don’t want to hear it. Great article!

I liked the article but partially disagree with the rewards parts. Lots of kids get something when they earn and A on their reports cards.

I think something extra to mark a great effort and performance is ok so long as it doesn’t impact teamwork and sportsmanship.

However, my kid is on team where a teammate gets their cell phone taken away if they don’t perform well in the game. That’s definitely taking it too far.

Thanks Andy, that was good stuff. I guess you have to continue to sell that to all of our parents. I would like to see college coaches do some development with parents. coaches, and principals around recruiting/sportsmanship/expectations.
