High Point University head coach Lyndsey Boswell announced the women’s lacrosse team’s 2014 schedule on Thursday. The Panthers begin their season at home against American on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.
The team’s schedule features three fellow 2013 NCAA participants in Florida, Duke and Denver. Both Florida and Duke lost in the NCAA quarterfinals last year while Denver lost in the second round.
Following the season-opener High Point hits the road to take on Florida, Virginia Tech, UMBC and Ohio State. High Point hosted three out of the four teams last season at Vert Stadium, beating Virginia Tech 9-5 to start the season. The Panthers then fell to No. 3 Florida 13-7 and wrapped up the regular season with a 15-10 loss to Ohio State. HPU has never played UMBC.
High Point returns home to host Villanova, Denver, Elon and Duke to wrap up the team’s non-conference slate from March 14 to April 2.
The Panthers open Big South play at Vert Stadium on April 3 against Presbyterian College. High Point then has four consecutive road games against conference opponents before finishing the season at home against Campbell on April 21 and Davidson on April 27.
Last year, HPU won the Big South Tournament over Davidson 9-7 to clinch a berth into the NCAA Tournament. This year’s Big South Tournament will take place May 2-4 and will be hosted by the No. 1 seed.
