National Wrestling Alliance President Bruce Tharpe announced on Monday the addition of NWA Greensboro as its newest promotion.

The promotion, owned by ten-year veteran promoter Wayne Wilson, will host events in Greensboro, NC beginning in late 2013 or early 2014.

“I am proud to be part of the most historic wrestling group around,” Wilson said. “I believe in the history of the city of Greensboro and all the legends that wrestled here under the NWA banner.”

Greensboro is a city with an incredibly rich history of professional wrestling. In the 1970s and 1980s, Greensboro, as one of the capitals of Jim Crockett Promotions, saw numerous matches for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, including Ric Flair’s victory over Harley Race at the first Starrcade in 1983 and Dusty Rhodes’ victory over Flair at the Great American Bash in 1986.

“We are very excited about the future plans of NWA Greensboro,” Tharpe said, “and welcome them to the Alliance!”

Plans for an NWA Greensboro website are in motion, but for now, information can be found at www.facebook.com/NWAGreensboro
