College Lacrosse News – Bonnel, Crisco Added to Guilford Athletics Staff

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford College Director of Athletics Tom Palombo announced the addition of Shannon Bonnel and Mark Crisco to the Quakers’ athletics staff Thursday. Bonnel serves as assistant women’s lacrosse coach and Crisco as assistant men’s lacrosse coach.

Bonnel received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Pfeiffer University in 2013 and is presently pursuing a master’s in business administration there. While at Pfeiffer, Bonnel co-captained the lacrosse team in 2012 and 2013, helping the Falcons to an eighth-place ranking in the Final 2013 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) NCAA Division II Poll. She was an IWLCA Second Team All-American and First Team All-South honoree in 2013. Bonnel collected numerous accolades in her career, including First Team All-Conference Carolinas (2011-13), Synapse Sports First Team All-American (2013), Conference Carolinas All-Tournament (2013) and Conference Carolinas Player of the Year (2013).

Bonnel has worked as an assistant coach for the Southern Maryland and Thunderbirds Girls Lacrosse travel teams. In 2012, she had a brief coaching internship at her alma mater under the guidance of head coach Dawn Easley. Prior to joining the Quakers, Bonnel was a substitute teacher in her home state of Maryland and a health and fitness instructor at the YMCA.

The Quakers’ women’s lacrosse team had a record-breaking season in 2013, finishing with a 15-2 overall record (10-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference). Head coach Sarah Lamphier expects 12 letter winners back for the 2014 season.

Crisco, also a Maryland native, graduated from Stevenson University in 2011. He started his college career at Long Island University-Post where he played on the men’s lacrosse team as a defenseman for two seasons and helped the Pioneers to the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championship. He attended Bel Air (Md.) High School, where he played lacrosse all four years and earned All-Harford County honors. Crisco comes to Guilford after spending the 2013 season as a volunteer assistant coach at Shenandoah University.

The Quakers’ men’s lacrosse team finished the 2013 campaign with an 8-8 overall record (3-6 ODAC). Head coach Tom Carmean expects 27 returners for the 2014 season.
