College Volleyball Final – Washington and Lee 3, Guilford 0

LEXINGTON, Va. – M.A. Boles put away 11 kills on .588 hitting and Meghan Meleski added 32 assists in Washington and Lee University’s 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) volleyball win over Guilford College Wednesday. Boles also had nine digs and two service aces in the Generals’ 25-6, 25-15, 25-21 victory.

Boles put away five kills in six attempts in Washington and Lee’s opening-set win. Meleski set up 14 assists in the set, which saw the Generals hit .600 as a team.

Guilford (6-8, 2-2 ODAC) regrouped and battled the hosts to a 13-13 draw in the second set before Mansie Hough served up nine straight points in a set-ending 12-2 run. Boles had four kills in the second sets.

The Quakers stormed to a 16-10 lead in the third set, thanks in part to six Washington and Lee attack errors. The Generals straightened out their hitting and put away eight kills without an error from that point in the 25-21 win. Guilford’s Kelsey Ruehling recorded five of her six points in the match with three kills and two service aces in the third set.

Washington and Lee’s Courtney Freudenthal had 10 kills and Maddie Kosar added nine. Kelly McManus led the Generals with 12 digs and Meleski picked up 10. Mackenzie Shand finished with four kills, seven assists and five blocks.

Guilford’s Ruehling and Brittany Freeman shared team-high honors with four kills apiece. Taylor Whitley contributed nine assists, two aces and a match-best 13 digs.

The Quakers are back in action Saturday (9/25) when they host a tri-match with Shenandoah University and Piedmont College beginning at 11:00 a.m.
