Greensboro College Pride Men’s Soccer Team Tops Southern Virginia 4-1

BUENA VISTA, VA– The Greensboro College Pride men’s soccer team rebounded for their defeat on Sunday with a 4-1 victory against Southern Virginia on Thursday night.

The Pride got the scoring started early in the first half, when Tyler Slayton scored on a breakaway to put Greensboro up 1-0 in the 11th minute. Just ten minutes later, Craig Gage collected a ball at the top of the box from Drew Clukey and found the back of the net to give The Pride a 2-0 lead. After the goal by Gage, Slayton collected a loose rebound and beat The Knight’s keeper for his second score of the day to increase the lead to 3-0 just 24 minutes into the game. Later in the half, George Dimopoulos scored to put Greensboro up 4-0 before Southern Virginia tallied in the 42nd minute to make the score 4-1 going into the break.

In the second half, Greensboro was not able to find the net again despite firing ten shots in the half. Greensboro outshot The Knights in the game 23-3, and held an 8-5 count on corner kicks.

Following the game, Head Coach John Trice said, ” I am very pleased to get a tough, mid-week away win. Our quality showed early as we scored our goals and many players contributed to the win.”

With the win, Greensboro will move to 4-3-2 on the season. The Pride will return to action on Sunday, September 29, when they return to USA South action in Rocky Mount, NC as they face off with The Battling Bishops of NC Wesleyan. Game time is set for a 4:00 pm start.
