College Cross Country News – Guilford’s Goncarovs Named ODAC Runner of the Week

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College senior Andris Goncarovs (Ithaca, N.Y. /Lehman Alternative Community School (SUNY Buffalo)) was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men’s Runner of the Week Monday. Goncarovs is the Quakers’ second winner of the league’s weekly award this season and has now won the honor three times in his career.

Goncarovs, a 5-10 senior, was the top NCAA Division III finisher at the 198-man Charlotte XC Invitational Sept. 28. He completed the eight-kilometer course in a personal-best time of 25 minutes, 34.6 seconds, which is the second-fastest time in the ODAC this season. Goncarovs placed fourth among college division runners, and 12th among all contestants. His time is sixth-fastest in school history and helped the Quakers post the eighth-best team score among 16 college division teams.

Goncarovs owns the ODAC’s top time in five kilometers and the second-best eight-kilometer time this season. He placed third in the season-opening ODAC Preview Meet (8/30) in 26:26.40 and had the top college division finish at the five-kilometer UNC Wilmington Invitational with a time of 15:29. Goncarovs was an All-South and First Team All-ODAC runner in 2012.

Coach Danny Cash’s team returns to action Saturday (10/5) at the Hagan Stone Classic at Hagan Stone Park in Pleasant Garden, N.C.
