Greensboro College Women’s Soccer Fights to 2-2 Draw Against Averett

GREENSBORO, NC– The Greensboro women’s soccer team (2-5-1, 1-2-1 USA South) tied Averett (6-3-1, 3-0-1 USA South) 2-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Pride got on the board first when Melanie Raton played a ball over the back line that found Tiffany Walters, who slotted the ball past the keeper for the early 1-0 lead. The score remained the same going into the half.

Averett came out of halftime, getting the equalizer at 58:29 making it 1-1. The Cougars took their first lead of the game at 86:02 to make it 2-1.

Greensboro responded one minuite later, when Lauren Greeson played a through ball to the right side of the box, where Raton put a shot to the left post tying the game at 2-2.

In the overtime periods, neither team was able to find the back of the net despite valet efforts by each side. The game would go on to finish as a 2-2 tie.

Caitlyn Cook, Walters, and Raton finished the game with two shots apiece. Jessica Thatcher had seven saves in the goal for The Pride.

Coach Spooner had this to say after the game, “I’m very proud of our team today; they showed all the qualities in terms of heart, desire, and will, but also in terms of game plan.”

The Pride will return to action on Saturday against Meredith. The kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Pride field.
