College Volleyball Final – Guilford 3, Ferrum 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Malikah French had seven kills and a career-high eight block assists in Guilford College’s 3-0 nonconference volleyball match over visiting Ferrum College Thursday. The Quakers played all 14 students and prevailed in 70 minutes, 25-18, 25-18, 25-11, improving to 8-10 on the season. Ferrum falls to 2-11.

French’s eight block assists mark the most by a Quaker since 2002. She accounted for a team-high 11 points on the night, one better than teammate Brittany DeCesare, who had a match-best eight kills and four block assists. Michaela Wall had five kills on .556 hitting. Taylor Whitley totaled three kills, 23 assists and 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Meredith Foscue chipped in a match-high 17 digs.

Rachel Stratton led Ferrum with five kills and two service aces. Emily Danner set up 16 assists and Jessica Turner had 13 digs. Guilford’s nine total team blocks contributed to the Panthers’ -.083 team hitting percentage.

The Quakers end a six-match home stand Saturday (10/5) with a tri-match against Eastern Mennonite University and Methodist University. The contests begin at 12 noon in the Ragan-Brown Field House. Guilford plays Eastern Mennonite at noon and Methodist at 4.
