LYNCHBURG, Va. – Marielle Rando scored twice in the second half to give host Randolph College a 2-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) soccer win over Guilford College Wednesday night.
Rando broke a scoreless tie in the 59th minute after taking a long pass over the defense from Alissa Gembach and going in one-on-one. She finally got a shot past Guilford goalie Abby Gove, who had kept Randolph scoreless in the first half with five of her game-high 15 saves.
Rando added an insurance marker 18 minutes later when she collected a misplayed clearance in Guilford’s defensive zone and volleyed the ball into the net.
The WildCats (3-7, 1-4 ODAC) enjoyed a 29-6 edge in shots and got three saves from netminder Caitlin Annunziata in their first league win of the year.
Guilford returns to action Saturday (10/5) with a home contest against league-rival Sweet Briar College at 2:00 p.m.
