Greensboro College Pride Women’s Volleyball Splits USA South Tri-Match

GREENSBORO, NC—The Greensboro College Pride volleyball team hosted a USA South home tri-match against The Lions of Piedmont and The Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin.

In the first match of the day, Greensboro would fall in the first two games of the match to Piedmont by scores of 25-18, 28-26.

In the third game to the match, after falling behind 8-4, The Pride would use a 8-2 run to take the lead in the game 14-10. Greensboro battled through a tough stretch in the game held on to win the game 26-24. The Lions came back however and won the fourth set and the match 25-19.

Liz Widenhouse led the way for Greensboro with 18 kills in the match, while Megan Baranko and Megan Smith added 10 kills apiece. Cortland Phillips passed for a match high 43 assists.

In the second match of the day, The Pride rebounded from their first match of the day defeating Mary Baldwin in three sets.

In the first game, Greensboro started out with a 9-0 run, and ended up winning the first game 25-7. In the second game, The Pride would use a five point run to extend the margin to 10-4. Greensboro closed out the set on a 15-10 run, taking the game 25-14. The Pride stayed hot, winning the third game and match 25-12.

In the second match, The Pride was led by Dallas Hasty with 9 kills, while Cortland Phillips passed for a match high 30 assists.

With the split on the day, The Pride move to 8-12 overall on the season and 4-5 is USA South play. Greensboro will return to action on Wednesday October 9th, when they travel to Rocky Mount, NC to face The Bishops of NC Wesleyan. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
